Thanksgiving 2011

Thanksgiving 2011 was at our house. We cooked a big turkey and asked everyone to bring a dish. The girls had a fun time playing with all our guests. They got to wear their new dresses from Grams and beads from CC.
Ava rocking her snow boots.
Carys showing her polka dot uggs that daddy chose.
Papa...Ava sure loves his beard. Papa James was getting ready for Christmas time.
Carys and Ava being silly with Papa Tom and Daddy.
Carys being a good hostess, offering tea.
Ava, Carys' guest.
The same family crew, just a year older.
Carys having fun with her Auntie Kim. Carys loves that the trundle is now in Ava's room and she can fit under her own bed!
Where's Carys? Little did we know when we chose the dresses that they matched Carys' bedspread!
With everyone's help, Thanksgiving was a huge success and the girls always love playing with their family.

Transitioning to a Big Girl Bed

With my two girls so close in age, we transitioned Carys to a big girl room and bed pretty early.  I did not want to buy another crib or a toddler bed that would only be used for a short while.  Instead, I bought her a twin bed with a trundle.  Carys actually slept on the trundle for a very long time and referred to her bed as "Gram's Bed" because that is where Grams slept when she visited.  Well after Grams visited in October, Carys was ready to start sleeping in her bed.
Therefore we decided we would buy Ava the same set up and moved the trundle into the nursery.  Ava's first nap over Thanksgiving was a little rough.  I chose my week off because I had a feeling we would have some rough nights.  Ava eventually would give in.  This is how I found her the first time.
I picked her up and placed her in her comfortable bed with all her friends.
The next nap time, I found her in her bed.  So sweet, my little Ava is growing up.
Thanksgiving also marked the time we took away the pacifier.  Mrs Patty noticed that Ava was relying on it too much and started to not give it to her at daycare.  We followed through at home with the same.  It was rough, but sweet Ava did great.

Holiday Dress Picture Fiasco

With Carys being painfully shy and Ava having a mind of her own, I decided I would try to take a holiday dress photo of the girls for the Christmas card. Little did I know what I was in for. Ava started the shoot off very well. She enjoyed sitting in Grandma Anne's old rocking chair.
So big, when did she get so big? 16 months old
Then Carys came and did well with individual pictures.
Put the second I tried to put them together for a photo, it all went downhill. Carys wanted to rock Ava instead of look at the camera.
I thought a change of venue outside would help, but they wanted to play in the house.
It was like herding cats! Here they were playing chase.
Finally the picture I wanted...after numerous others and me calling in the reserves, Daddy!
No wonder I did not take them to a professional...the two of them together is silly business.

Aquarium Visit with Auntie Amy

Visiting Moody Gardens Aquarium was even more of a treat because Auntie Amy from Florida came with us. Carys and Ava had a great time looking at all the exhibits, I love this picture I caught of them looking at a very photogenic sea turtle.
OOOOH...Ava loved the small fish and stayed away from the glass if it had big fish.
Auntie Amy with her Goddaughter in the shark tank.
Auntie Amy with her nieces, Ava and Carys.
Playing around in the shark cage.
From here we went to the Rainforest Cafe for lunch, Carys loved the elephants but not Ava. She wanted to be held the entire time and was so tired, she fell asleep in my arms during lunch.

Dress Up and Roll Play

The best thing about having a big sister is that she has great ideas. Carys decided one night that she wanted to dress up like a princess and that Ava would like to join in too. Ava got a tutu and is trying to put on her heels. Ava already likes to accessorize with necklaces.
Both girls with tutus, beads and heels...but something was missing. So off to Ava's room for...
Crowns! Love this picture, but unfortunately Ava had already ditched her heels.
Ava is also starting to love her babies, lining them up and giving them bottles.
What a good mommy Ava, when did she grow up?
I love watching my girls play and interact together. They have such imaginations.
